THE McLaren announced on Friday afternoon the renewal of Lando Norris' contract and then 2025, almost two years before that expires.
The Briton spoke to members of the press about this development, stressing that there were discussions with other teams (the report talks about advanced contacts with Red Bull), before reaching the decision to put his signature on the new contract with the Woking team :
“Everybody talks to everybody, and every driver talks to every team.
“It's about what this team can give you and what another team can give you.
“It's the same with any driver. Everyone is talking in every group about what could happen in the future, but nothing has progressed beyond that, basically. So yeah, the deal closed pretty quickly.”
When asked about him reason who from now on tied his future to McLaren, he replied disarmingly:
“Because I can, because I'm in a good position. It's not something I want to worry about in the next few years.
“Obviously, there's always been these conversations (about) our future. And I think it's just a really, really good time, especially when it's going to be a couple of years where things start to get a little crazier with everyone else's contracts.
“Going into 2026, the year of the new regulations, the contract is not something that I think I or the team want to think about, focus on or spend time in these two very important years.
“I feel comfortable, I'm happy with where I am and the team is happy with me. So it was an easy decision.”
