Hyundai Motor showcased the e-Corner steering system developed by Hyundai subsidiary Mobis. It uses robotic technology that allows it to perform incredible maneuvers. For example, a 360-degree turn around its axis or along a circle with a diameter equal to the wheelbase of the car. With the ability to turn the wheels 45 and 90 degrees, the e-Corner allows you to move laterally or diagonally. The sequence of these maneuvers can be any.
As a demonstration stand, the developers used the Ioniq 5 electric car with four independently controlled motor wheels. You can see how easily it maneuvers in tight spaces in the company’s official video.
The Hyundai Mobion EV concept navigates space using three lidars. To avoid collisions with other road users, warnings about upcoming maneuvers are displayed on OLED screens at the bow and stern of the car. They also function as optics, illuminating the surface when turning on the spot and projecting simple and clear signs while driving.
