The era of midget, four-wheeled demons is sadly over. The era of the Cinquecento Sporting and all manner of pocket French GTs has come to an early end. And so, the category of city cars – especially turbocharged cars – is now incomplete. And apparently, only the Koreans insist on producing little devils like the i10 and, of course, in the sporty N-Line version. Recently, in fact, Hynudai proceeded to renew it. So here is the refreshed i10 in its fast version. How fast it is is not evidenced by the “dragon red” color of the body which…ferraris.
Let’s focus on the facelift. The first clue has to do with the new flat “H” logo with a brushed aluminum finish. The sporty, wide grille incorporates newly designed LED daytime running lights, while the rear lights are also LED, creating an “H” with the horizontal line of the tailgate. Aesthetically, the content of the lamps has changed. Dual exhaust pipes, a diffuser and the i10 name on the rear pillars complete the cool image together with techno wheels and Hankook Ventus Prime 3 195/45-R16 tires (you read the dimension correctly!).
More… electronic
The cabin has the touches of a sporty ensemble. Everywhere there is red stitching and inserts like, for example, on the air vents to boost the character of the whole. At the base of the console rests a 5-way (only?) dial with a nice button very convenient for any quick changes. Multi-function, all-round steering wheel with perforated leather trim, digital instrument cluster with dubious aesthetic display and 8-inch color screen with an old functional but fully Hellenized and two rotary switches to make the otherwise labyrinthine management of the systems a little easier.
But the renewal is more obvious, where it is not… visible. The new i10 is equipped with the good Hyundai Smart Sense suite of active safety that is unmatched in the class since it includes no less than 15 systems! Stand out are the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system that recognizes a variety of impending dangers and the active Lane Following Assist that helps the car stay in its lane. In the mechanical parts, in addition to the anachronistic – for the car’s philosophy – 5-speed selector with a very good but very good clutch, there is the T-GDi three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 100 PS at 4,500 rpm and 172 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm.
Civilized fast
With a weight of just over 1,000 kg one would expect explosive performance. And yes, it’s sporty as from 2,600 to 6,700 rpm the bike fills up pleasantly. It also rattles a bit for the relative effect, but the performance is not comparable. 0-100 km/h in 10.5 sec and 60-100 km/h in 4th gear in 9.4 sec (and to think that the atmospheric 1200ari i10 with 84 hp does the same repris 0.4 sec faster!) . It is therefore sporty in the filling of the motor and not from low. So firmly press the right pedal and rely on its good grip and fun control.

What we would still like is better comfort and more correct suspension adjustment to reach the level of a VW up! GTI (as the most recent recruit that no longer exists on the Greek market). In terms of consumption, 7.6 L/100 km is a very good performance based on the whole car.
The i10 N-Line is a pleasantly sporty car, but not hardcore as some (many) of its components might suggest. It is a fast city car with a lot of patina from the normal Ns but -unfortunately- and a price of 19,390 euros which is a lot for the category in which it is located.
At least it comes with the package of safety systems we mentioned above and with Hyundai’s top warranties.
