At the recent Solutrans 2023 exhibition in Lyon, Telma showed its innovative development – the hybrid induction brake (HIB). At the stand it was presented on an IVECO Daily chassis with a refrigerated van body from Lecapitane. In this case, it was already a commercial vehicle for the Petit Forester company.
Telma HIM can be installed on delivery vehicles with a gross weight of 3.5 tons. The system combines several functions: a traditional electromagnetic eddy current retarder, a motor function and the ability to generate energy. Thermal energy from braking is converted into electrical energy and accumulated in a special battery with a capacity of 10 kWh.
According to the developers, the Telma HIB hybrid induction brake can reduce fuel consumption by 15% and the same amount of harmful CO2 emissions. Moreover, it reduces emissions of fine particles during braking by 85%. The system also has a beneficial effect on the smoothness of control, which will be appreciated by both the driver and passengers. The payback period for Telma HIB is three years.
