The end of car roof aerials is coming as the automotive industry is poised to change the world of connectivity.
LG Electronics is set to introduce a new generation of transparent car antennas at CES 2024 making a big splash and promising a “revolution” in the field of car communication components.
The South Korean multinational recently announced that it is joining forces with the renowned French automotive glass manufacturer, Saint-Gobain Sekurit.
For many years the vast majority of vehicles had a long antenna on the roof or tailgate which has been replaced in recent years by its more modern version which is the so-called shark fin.
Film type antenna
LG’s research and development department created a transparent film that, among other things, can perform antenna duties in the increasingly sophisticated vehicles on display.
The software aims to create a seamless connection with networks such as 5G, global satellite navigation system, Bluetooth, etc. The antenna features more than 80 patented innovations.
“New solutions in the mobility experience” promises LG
Designed for compatibility with various types of glass and vehicle designs, LG’s transparent antenna will be available for mounting on glass surfaces. The application of the film type antenna guarantees reliable telecommunication and provides expansion to cope with increased network traffic.
The president of LG Vehicle Component Solution Company, Eun Seokhyun, said a few days ago that the close cooperation with Saint-Gobain Sekurit will lead to the creation of a next-generation antenna that stands out for its performance.
“As a global leader in telematics and solutions for the automotive industry, LG is committed to evolving its technological capabilities and continuing to introduce new solutions to the mobility experience,” it said.
