In the capital of the Russian Federation, a fire broke out in the Orthodox Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which is located in the Basmanny district. This was reported by the Russian portal “REN TV” with reference to the data of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.
“The fire broke out in the Peter and Paul Church on Novaya Basmannaya Street in Moscow. The fire is extinguished by firefighters,” the source says.
According to journalists, the fire area was 10 square meters. The cause of the fire is not reported, but it is known that the construction timber located inside the temple building was on fire.
A video also appeared on the Telegram channel of the publication, which shows smoke in one of the parts of the building. No casualties have been reported.
Fire in a Moscow church
The media also clarified that the temple building is now under restoration.
It should be noted that the Orthodox Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, located on Novaya Basmannaya Street, belongs to the Epiphany Deanery of the Moscow City Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The temple is an example of Peter’s baroque, inspired by the architectural forms of Western Europe. Its construction took place between 1705-1728. In 1992, the building was returned to the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church, and in 1994, its minor consecration took place.
