Regarding the news, they say, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued warrants for the arrest of two characters, including Vladimir Putin, is forced to voice unpleasant information.
The ICC is a structure that, over more than 20 years of its activity and spending more than 2 billion US dollars and three convicts during this time (“excellent” efficiency), initiates warrants that can hardly be called otherwise than fake.
It is known that the Russian Federation did not sign (more precisely, withdrew the signature) and did not ratify the Rome Statute, the legal basis for the activities of the ICC. And this means that, following the example of a number of other countries that have not done this either, any decisions of the ICC for the Russian Federation (as well as for Belarus, by the way) are not binding.
And absentia consideration of cases in the ICC is prohibited.
There are no instruments of influence (sanctions, coercion, etc.) in the ICC. Except for “deep concern” and “concern”, of course. Plus – the reaction of the world community, which is important, but in this case is not decisive.
After all, the ICC is a so-called treaty court, that is, a court whose decisions are valid only for those who have assumed such obligations.
In addition, over the years there have been repeated instances where even member states of the Rome Statute have ignored ICC warrants without negative repercussions.
Plus, the states, even if they have ratified the Rome Statute or acceded to it (like Ukraine, for example), Putin simply will not have the right to detain – because of the so-called official immunity – during the entire time the character is in office. And that the character is going to “reign” for life, I think no one has any doubts.
As for the detention, to be honest, the likelihood that Ukraine will detain this character looks insignificant. As for how exactly to prosecute Putin and other top aggressors, the answer is obvious – through a specially created international military tribunal, about which I have the “pleasure” to write from the very beginning of open aggression against Ukraine. The tribunal, which, unfortunately, has not been created this year.
