Sergei Astashin, ex-FSB officer, spoke about Solovyov’s plans in a commentary to journalists. The former operative said that he decided to contact the journalists after he heard the propagandist’s statement on television, which infuriated him.

According to Astashin, he met Solovyov in 1993 when he checked his office for bugs. A few days later, Solovyov turned to an FSB officer with a request to find a killer to kill Otari Kvantrishvili.
Solovyov offered 20 thousand dollars for the service, emphasizing that this was not his money, but “allocated”. Astashin suggested that at that time the FSB could have recruited the propagandist, since the head of the academy of the Ministry of Security of the Russian Federation was notified of his “order”.
