According to director Armin Papperger, they proposed the concept of the enterprise to the German government. They will not build the plant themselves, but want to rent the enterprise from those who will do it.
The director of the defense company Rheinmetall Armin Papperger said that their company will not invest in the construction of a plant in Ukraine. It must be done by the other side. He said this in an interview with NZZ.
According to Papperger, at the moment they are discussing plans with the German government, but the decision also needs approval from Ukraine.
“We must give Ukraine the opportunity to defend itself. Such a plant is not built overnight. So we need to start planning right now. To do this, we developed a concept and presented it to the German government,” said Armin Papperger.
He also added that approval from Germany is still far away, in addition, first Ukraine must give the go-ahead at the government level. At the same time, Rheinmetall will not invest in the construction of the enterprise; either Ukraine or another country that wants to help Kyiv should allocate funds. The defense facility will be leased by Rheinmetall.
Answering the question when the enterprise should be built, Papperger said that Ukraine should decide. He added that the plant in Hungary is also leased from the company. It is planned to build the latest Panther KF51 tanks on it.
Recall, on March 4, it was reported that in Ukraine they want to build a plant for the production of tanks, which will be able to produce up to 400 vehicles per year.
On February 9, it was reported that Ukraine could receive modern Panther tanks. Also, the Ukrainian army is interested in the supply of BMP Lynx.
