The mother of Oleksandr Matsiyevsky, who posthumously received the title of Hero of Ukraine, Praskovya Demchuk, told reporters about her son, who managed to say “Glory to Ukraine!” to the invaders before being shot. An interview with her on March 10 was published by Bild.
According to his mother, Alexander was a brave man and loved Ukraine very much.
On December 30, Matsievsky stopped communicating. The day before, on December 29, the fighter called his mother for the last time.

The fact that her son is no longer alive, Demchuk learned from social networks. She saw the video on Facebook and immediately recognized Alexander.
“I look and understand – this is my son, and I screamed” Sasha! This is my Sasha!” It was a shock,” the woman admits.

Matsievsky often repeated the phrase “Glory to Ukraine” at home, says the mother of the deceased. For him, it was “the signature of life,” she emphasizes.
“He stood without weapons, but at the same time he was proud that he was Ukrainian. He was always incredibly brave. At that moment, the only weapon he could defend himself with was to say: “Glory to Ukraine!” Demchuk comments on the shocking footage , which show how the Russians shoot her son.

Execution of Matsievsky: volunteered for the front
According to Praskovya Demchuk, Matsievsky was always ready to help, including the Russians, before the start of the war. So, in 2001, when a flood occurred in the Russian city of Lensk in Yakutia, Alexander immediately went to restore the city. In Russia, he met his future wife, and his son was born there.
Until February 24, 2022, Alexander Matsievsky worked as an electrician in Kyiv. After the invasion of the Russian army, the man went to fight as a volunteer – he signed up for the territorial defense of the city of Nizhyn in the Chernihiv region.
In February, the body of Matsievsky and his two brothers was returned home, but at that time there was no information about the circumstances of his death. Praskovya Demchuk went to identify her son. She admits that it was the worst day of her life.
On February 14, the Ukrainian soldier was buried at the cemetery in Nizhyn.
Recall that on March 12, the SBU finally confirmed the identity of the fighter who was shot after he said the words “Glory to Ukraine.”
On the same day, President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening video message, said that he had awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to the executed military prisoner Oleksandr Matsiyevsky.
