“There has only been one lava eruption so far. If the coverage continues to increase and the distance exceeds 7 kilometers, it is likely that residents will be advised to evacuate,” a spokesman for the agency said.
A cloud of dust and gas covered the sun during the day. At least eight villages near the volcano were hit by volcanic ash, an officer at one of Merapi’s observation posts said.
