Defending the fortress city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, father and son, Oleg and Nikita Khomyuki, died. This is reported by the 241 brigade of the territorial defense of Kyiv.
“Father Oleg with the call sign “Khoma” and his son Nikita with the call sign “Tourist” from the first days of the full-scale offensive went to defend their land as part of the Territorial Defense Forces. Father and son defended Ukraine together as part of our 206th Territorial Defense Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and together died heroically in combat positions.
Officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Khristyuk on Facebook on March 9 told the details of the death of Oleg and Nikita Khomyukov. According to him, the entire male part of their family went to the front from the first days of a full-scale Russian invasion.
They dismissed the Kyiv, Kharkov and Kherson regions. Later, the Khomyuks left for the Donetsk region.
“They died near Bakhmut. The father covered his son with himself, but the shell exploded at their heads. Both died. Together. As they walked along the paths of this war … Father and son are side by side. Incredible guys who want to develop, fight, win and to live. The guys are now with the Lord. I know they already hold the sky over Ukraine. Eternal memory. Glory to the heroes!” Khrystyuk noted.
In the 206th Territorial Defense Battalion, where Oleg and Nikita Khomyuki served. They are remembered as brave warriors, always ready to help.
“Father, soldier Oleg “Khoma”. Kind, sincere and frank. He was the first to rush to the rescue, took care of his comrades, tried to cheer or just support. He cared about the fate of his son and all other younger comrades, whom he considered children, and this inspired Oleg to move on overcoming the difficulties of the military path,” the press service of the battalion told about Oleg Khoma.
Nikita is also spoken of as a stubborn, courageous warrior who constantly developed and strove to learn new things.
“Son, senior soldier Nikita “Tourist”, but his twin brothers usually called him “Junior Khoma”, because they were inseparable from his father. Nikita was open to the world, was fond of travel and often recalled how he and his father loved quiet outdoor recreation. He was full of desire to become a real warrior: he studied, developed skills, did not stop and strove to master various military specialties,” the twin brothers say.
The funeral of the Heroes will be held today, March 10, in Kyiv.
In Bakhmut, the commander of the 1st OMB “Da Vinci Wolves” of the Main Directorate of Management “Right Sector” Dmitry Kotsyubailo with the call sign “Da Vinci” died. At one time he received the highest state award – the title of Hero of Ukraine. The defender was 27 years old, 9 of which he spent in the war.
In an address on March 7, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on citizens to keep the memory of the young Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Kotsyubail and thanked the military of the 67th brigade for their heroism.
