“The law provides for the extension of criminal liability for treason committed by an official to all persons holding public office. At the same time, for treason against the state committed by an official or military personnel, the possibility of applying an exceptional measure of punishment – the death penalty is introduced,” the message says.
For a number of the above crimes, an additional penalty in the form of a fine is also established – up to 50 thousand basic units (2.7 million hryvnias). This measure, according to the press service of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, was introduced in order to ensure compensation for harm by persons who decided to commit high treason.
In addition, from now on, Belarus introduces criminal liability for promoting terrorism, discrediting the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, as well as for violating the requirements for protecting state secrets.
