And a resident of South Africa, Mazibuko, celebrated her 128th birthday on May 11 last year.
According to local mayor James Zolella, after numerous checks and searches to determine who is the oldest person in the world, no one could be found who would be older.
“We have her ID showing this,” the mayor says. He also added that he tried to ensure that the name of his compatriot appeared in the Guinness Book of Records in order to honor her memory in this way.
The woman was not literate, but in an interview with the local press she spoke about the possible secrets of her longevity.
“We lived so well on the farms. There were no problems,” the woman told reporters.
