Expert “Behind the wheel” debunks the myth.
– The parking brake with a mechanical drive (as on the Zhiguli) was completely autonomous, while being “at hand”. Are the electromechanical parking brakes a step backwards: they are not autonomous, and you can’t immediately find the button?
– It is difficult to call a step back a system that automatically releases the brakes at the start of movement and is activated when parking.
If it is necessary to drive the car onto a tow truck or a lift in the event of a breakdown, there are no problems either – the system can be deactivated forcibly, just as it happens with the machine selector.
As for the parking brake in principle, let’s be honest: today we use it much less often. In the presence of an automatic transmission, the need to “pull the handbrake” as a whole disappears.
Yes, and with a manual transmission, when parking, it is better to put the car in gear. Especially in winter.
