According to Ukraine’s energy minister, the Russians are so sloppy and unprofessional with the high-tech equipment at the nuclear power plant that they apparently want to leave it inoperable during the retreat.
Diplomatic efforts to return the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control have stalled. This was stated by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko on the air of the national telethon on Sunday, March 5.
“As of now, the situation has stalled. The Russians have issued a decree that ZNPP is a “federal” property, registered in Moscow under the name “Zaporozhye Station,” Galushchenko stated.
The head of the relevant ministry explained that the position of Ukraine, which he voices on all international platforms, boils down to the fact that any negotiations on the ZNPP should be based on the demilitarization of the plant and on the exit of all employees of Rosatom from the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
“Ukrainian personnel should be able to operate a nuclear facility calmly, without pressure,” Galushchenko stressed.
Occupation of the Zaporozhye NPP: what is the current situation at the station
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine warned that the situation at the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye NPP is approaching critical, the minister says. The IAEA, he said, reported that due to improper operation, the condition of the equipment at the station is only deteriorating.
“The Russians are extremely unprofessional at the station. There is a feeling that one of the goals of the invaders is to leave it to us in a non-working state after the de-occupation,” Galushchenko summed up.

Recall that before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 11,000 people worked at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Now only a fifth of them, 2,000 workers, are left. All of them signed agreements with Rosatom.
Focus also wrote that Russia placed 600 mobilized Russians and cadets in a bomb shelter on the territory of the ZNPP in Energodar. Here they have to wait until they are sent to the front in the Donetsk region.
