After all, operating a touch screen while driving is not as easy as using a button. You don’t know if you’re in the right menu or called the right function until you look at the screen. With buttons, it’s easy to know if you’ve activated the desired function without even looking at them.
The British Road Safety Institute TRL recently showed the result of a study: the use of a touch screen in a car increases reaction time by 57%.
A cell phone provides 46% longer reaction time than a push-button phone, making mobile phone use less dangerous than touch screens.
According to a survey conducted in Germany, 37% of drivers said they preferred buttons, levers and sliders; 22% think a combination of different controls works best, 16% prefer a touch screen, and only 10% want to control their car’s functions primarily by voice.
