The agreement will provide Ukraine with modern military equipment, weapons and ammunition, but not Article V protection or obligations to deploy NATO forces in Ukraine, analysts say.
British, French and German officials are preparing a Ukraine-NATO pact that does not meet the guarantees that Ukraine will receive from NATO membership and seems to reflect a desire to pressure Kiev to accept a negotiated settlement to the conflict on unfavorable terms. This is stated in the analytics for February 25 of the American Institute for the Study of War ISW.
The exact terms of the agreement have not been determined, but officials have indicated that the agreement will provide Ukraine with modern military equipment, weapons and ammunition, but not Article V protection or obligations to deploy NATO forces in Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal. This does not meet Ukraine’s requirements for full NATO membership.
Officials said the pact seeks to secure Ukraine in such a way that Ukrainian forces can launch a counteroffensive that will bring Russia to the negotiating table and deter any future Russian aggression.
It is noted that officials have expressed reservations about the ability of the West to support a prolonged military effort.
Earlier, Focus reported that the report of the Institute for the Study of War dated February 25 stated that in the Tokmak area in Zaporozhye, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liquidated 120 Russian occupiers who were conducting reconnaissance.
The United States is confident that the training and weapons it provides to Ukraine will change the dynamics on the battlefield in the war against the Russian Federation. This will allow you to break through the Russian defenses and maneuver.
