The new compact sports car is already on sale. The sports division of the German brand continues the tuning program for the most radical version. The latest shots allow a generous look at the interior, which differs from the basic versions by the presence of a large screen in the instrument cluster.

The new generation BMW 2 Series Coupe is already on sale, although those who wish will have to be patient to get their first copies. They will arrive in the spring of 2022. Meanwhile, BMW M technicians are continuing the test program developed for the new 2023 BMW M2.

New spy photos of this most insane BMW variant remain as camouflaged as in previous sightings. It is still impossible to see the details. At the same time, it is clear that the novelty will use a new vertical grille. This part has already been spotted in spy photos, retaining the classic double grille.

Thin double vertical stripes will run horizontally. The bumper with leaf-covered air intakes features profiled skirts and bulging wheel arches, giving the car a more aggressive look.

At the rear, the most noticeable feature will be a new spoiler lip on the edge of the boot lid and four tailpipes in the center of the rear.

A glance at the dash reveals a more modern configuration than the one shown in the new 2 Series coupe. And that’s what the top of the lineup will have, from launch, a new digital dashboard with a minimalist design that fits across the lineup. The same curved screen made its debut on board the iX.

The G87, as it is called internally, will be unveiled after the summer of 2022. its production will begin in December. It will arrive at dealerships in late spring 2023. Under the hood will be the M4’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 450 hp, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The sports car will feature sophisticated options, alloy wheels up to 20 inches in diameter and a carbon roof.

Independent designers of the Spanish portal motor.es did not wait for the premiere of the new Mercedes-Benz CLE coupe and presented their vision of the future novelty.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLE coupe will be presented only in 2023. The novelty will combine all the best from the C-Class and E-Class coupes. Spanish designers showed what kind of design the newest CLE Coupe could get.

According to media reports, the Germans are already working on a project for a new coupe. There is no official information about the future novelty yet, as well as sketches. On the render, we see a stylish coupe with a tapered head optics and an original radiator grille – it has retained the central stripe with the corporate star and the honeycomb pattern, but has changed its shape.

Moreover, it is expected that the new product will surpass the dimensions of the current C-Class coupe. There is no image of the stern, but it will probably also be slightly retouched to distance the new product from the current coupes.

It’s still too early to talk about the technical stuffing – we’ll wait for the first test prototypes of the Mercedes-Benz CLE.
Most likely, the Germans will not include diesel engines in the engine range of the new coupe, but hybrids should appear. The toughened emission standards in Europe have not yet been canceled.

Porsche is preparing many different versions of its 992-generation 911 sports coupe. It is known that we are expecting absolute innovations, such as the hybrid version of the model, as well as the off-road version of the Safari. More recently, foreign journalists captured a prototype of the latter.

It doesn’t have a hybrid powertrain (or at least we don’t think so), but it does have significantly higher ground clearance than the typical 911. This is a striking departure from our usual low-slung sports car, and yet it is not. Outlandish, since Safari-spec car variants have a long tradition. Although this rendition of a sports coupe has never been sold directly by Porsche, the German company is no stranger to off-road versions of the 911.

New spy shots appear to confirm that at least one of the two Safari concepts (there was also a Macan) created in recent years will receive a production version.

Caught in trials at the Nürburgring, the prototype has a “raised” suspension and slightly modified bumpers to improve entry and exit angles. It also appears to have wheel arch extensions attached, which could be a sign of wider ruts on both axles.

An educated guess tells us the 911 Safari will have all-wheel drive, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if it is based on at least the Carrera 4S. As for whether it will be on a par with the rest of the 911 family, or whether it will be an exclusive offer from the German brand, it’s too early to say.

The official debut of the off-road version of the 911 may take place before the end of this year or early 2022, since the first such prototype was spotted back in October 2020.

The new UK car company will launch its first model called the Vertige Wells Vertige, a sports car with a mid-engine weighing 850 kg from the UK.

Wells Motor Cars, a new UK carmaker, is poised to launch its first model, the Vertige, on the market. Designed for limited production, it is a lightweight mid-engined sports car with a monocoque chassis and a Ford engine.

According to Autocar, development began in 2014 by founder Robin Wells. He wanted to buy the perfect sports car but couldn’t find one on the market. Engineer Robin Hall of Hall Engineering became project manager in 2016. After seven long years of development, the car is finally ready for the road.

The Vertige is based on a steel monocoque chassis with tubular subframes and a steel roll cage providing a torsional rigidity of 47,000 Nm. Composite body panels with sexy curves and double-sided doors look like a mixture of British classics with a TVR touch. It has compact dimensions: a length of 4.0 m and a width of 1.75 m, but the most important thing is a low weight of 850 kg.

The model is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Ford engine producing 208 hp. and 210 Nm as standard. Acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h takes 4.8 seconds. The maximum speed is over 225 km / h. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission.

In the two-seater cockpit, we find a beautiful analogue instrument cluster behind a leather three-spoke steering wheel, Alcantara upholstery on the dashboard, a wooden gear knob on the high center tunnel, and a modern 7-inch touchscreen on the dashboard.

Equipment includes navigation, Bluetooth, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, two USB ports, two speakers and an additional air conditioner. As for the luggage compartment, there is a 206-liter compartment in the back and an additional 15-liter trunk next to the spare wheel.

Wells Vertige will make its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The first seven examples of the car will be produced by Hall Engineering by the spring of 2022, and they are already talking about them. In the future, serial production is planned at the new Well plant located in Itchington.

The unique 1954 Porsche 356 Coupe will go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s. This car was specially prepared for participation in the races, but never took part in them. The car that racer Walter Glöckler worked on looks pretty pretty.

Beauty exists in the eye of the beholder, but this 1954 Porsche 356 Carrera 1500 Coupe is hardly beautiful, especially when compared to other versions of the 356. However, this car is very important as a one-of-a-kind race car. The coupe is part of the RM Sotheby’s auction in Monterey, California, USA, which runs from August 13-14.

Walter Glöckler was an accomplished racer who competed in both two and four-wheeled vehicles.

Starting in the late 1940s, he also built racing cars, which often used Volkswagen and Porsche components.

His seventh race car was a coupe, which is now listed at RM Sotheby’s. Mr. Glöckler built it for the 1954 Mille Miglia, but according to his own story, the car was not ready in time. The car raced Liège-Rome-Liège with Walter’s cousin Helm Glöckler at the wheel. Unfortunately, due to technical problems, the coupe was not competitive.

This Glöckler-Porsche is nothing like the regular 356. The differences start at the front with a pair of large round headlights. However, there are two smaller rectangular lights on the front bumper and a large Cyclops eye in the center.

The doors have a separate glass section at the top that widens the roof opening. This gives the entire cabin a more spacious look and probably makes it easier to get into the car. The rear window is another notable difference from all 356s. It is divided into sections but covers the sides of the body. With so much glass, visibility becomes another attribute of this machine. There are tiny fins on the back sides. It’s a 1950s styling element that is a visually intriguing touch to this little car.

Recently “stolen” photos of camouflaged prototypes allowed us to imagine what the next convertible from Mercedes, which could be called CLE, will look like. From there, it was only a short step to get an idea of ​​what a CLE Coupé would look like. Because even if no test copy of this closed model has yet been seen, his next arrival is more than likely.

A new model at Mercedes

The name CLE which belongs to Mercedes is not used in the current range, this model should have the right to its own visual identity.

This could be inspired by the design of the largest CLS with a relatively low grille, a very openwork front face evoking sportiness, and a “fastback” profile. At the front as at the rear, fine lights should accentuate the dynamism of the whole. The rear seats will probably be more generous than on board the next SL. The 2022 coupe has tried on modern styling with retro proportions. Both the available options, 230i and M240i xDrive, only work with an automatic transmission.

BMW has unveiled the new generation BMW 2 Series with a two-door coupe body and relatively compact dimensions. Many refer to this model as the spiritual successor to the legendary 2002 1960s and 1970s.

Before us is one of the most conservative BMWs in recent history: the coupé has retained the long bonnet of its predecessors, which clearly denotes its rear-wheel drive architecture. The 2 Series will no longer be available with a manual transmission, with a standard eight-speed automatic for both models: the 230i rear-wheel drive and the M240i xDrive all-wheel drive.

The novelty has avoided many non-standard design decisions of current BMW models. For example, there are no “giant” grille nostrils. The bulge on the hood looks just like the E46 M3.

The 230i front bumper has a thin, wide center air intake and two vertical slots, while the more aggressive M240i xDrive gets unusual triangular vents in the corners. Convex front and rear wheel arches remind us of the old 1-Series M. At the stern, there are taillights with a new angular design and black housings.

The 230i comes standard with chrome décor, although the optional Shadowline package replaces the high-gloss details with high-gloss black. The M240i gets Cerium Gray trim, a copper finish that is also found on the M340i Sedan and M440i Coupe. Inside, the Series 2 resembles its counterparts with a digital instrument cluster and a high-positioned hexagonal touchscreen, while the door panels receive an original mosaic pattern.

The base engine for the 230i is a 2.0-liter inline-four turbo with 255 horsepower. The M240i’s three-liter inline-six turbocharged engine develops an incredible 382bhp. Both motors are more powerful than the outgoing 2nd series. The 230i will accelerate to hundreds in 5.5 seconds, and the M240i will reduce this time to 4.1 seconds. The transmission is an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The new coupe has become more agile in sporty driving and its architecture has become even more rigid. A-pillars and five-link rear suspension come standard.

The 230i gets an optional M Sport suspension option that includes stiffer versions of the standard kit, while the M240i comes standard with an M Adaptive Suspension, where continuously variable dampers provide a softer ride and quicker response. The 230i comes standard with 18 “wheels, and 19” wheels are optional, although they come standard on the M240i.

For the first time, the new Series 2 is equipped as standard with a comprehensive range of active driver assistance and safety systems. These are, for example, automatic emergency braking, frontal collision warning, lane keeping and blind spot monitoring systems and much more. With the change of generation, the 2022 BMW 2 Series added a bit in size and became heavier. At the same time, the volume of the trunk has become more modest. There are no prices for the 2nd series yet, and we are not waiting for budget price tags. The current 230i starts at $ 35,900, while the 2021 M240i xDrive starts at $ 48,350. The most affordable 230i is expected to be priced at a minimum of $ 40,000, while the M240i could cost $ 50,000 excluding options. The novelty will reach dealers in November.

Meanwhile, the powerful 2022 Volkswagen Golf R station wagon debuted. The novelty, in addition to a more efficient motor, got a special drift mode.

A 356 with a unique style

The hatchback profile that we still find today on the Porsche 911, with its rounded roof that goes down to the rear bumper, is characteristic of the 356 in coupe version. But this Glöcker version boasts an astonishing notchback silhouette and a large three-part rear window just in front of its bonnet. The rear fenders, on the other hand, end in vertical ailerons, at the corners of which the optical blocks are located. The front is closer to that of a classic 356 with the notable exception of the additional headlight added to the center of the shield. We also notice the flared cutout of the four wheel arches. This particular 356 is the work of an equally special character.

A little-known craftsman in the history of Porsche

In the 1950s, Walter Glöcker was both racing driver and distributor for the Porsche and Volkswagen brands in Frankfurt, which enabled him to build with original parts from the manufacturers in question a handful of competition cars intended for the events in which he entered.

Thus was born his Carrera 1500 Coupe, a 356 intended to race at the Mille Miglia in 1954. But the car was not finished in time to be registered there. She took part in the Liège-Rome-Liège endurance race in the hands of Helmut Glöcker, Walter’s cousin, but had to give up due to technical problems. The car has never raced since. It was restored a few years ago. No price estimate has been published.

Despite its style apart and its lackluster history in competition, this 356 reminds Walter Glöcker to our fond memories. Because before building this coupe, the man had known how to build a reputation to the point that Porsche involved him in the development of the now legendary 550.

BMW unveils the new and second generation 2 Series Coupé. The latter remains faithful to the propulsion and the six-cylinder in-line engine.

At BMW, the 2 Series family has a new member. A few hours from his first physical appearance at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 8-11, 2021), the new BMW 2 Series Coupe is already revealed in its entirety!

Four and six cylinder, two or four wheel drive

Expected for months, this second generation of the 2-door-4-seater coupé turns out to be no big surprise. As previously announced by BMW, the car remains in effect true to propulsion as well as to the engine six cylinders in line. But you will have to choose one or the other. At least initially, since the turbocharged 3.0l six-cylinder is only offered under the hood of the top-of-the-range M240i… xDrive version. This develops a 374 horsepower that is sent to all four wheels through a 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission (with paddle shifters and Launch Control). This is 34 hp more than the old M240i xDrive, still with the same torque of 500 Nm. Enough to swallow the 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3s, against 4.4s previously.

The propulsion (rear-wheel drive) is reserved for models four cylinder 2.0l petrol (220i with 184 hp and 300 Nm) and 2.0l diesel (220d with 190 hp and 400 Nm). The latter is also supported by a 48V micro-hybridization. In all cases, the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission is standard

Still on the technical side, the German manufacturer is also announcing a 50:50 weight distribution and one frame stiffened by 12%. An electronic differential and a new progressive damping system are also part of the game, while a more precise DirectDrive steering and an electronically controlled SelectDrive M suspension are optional.

A more athletic 2-door coupe

Question size, the Series 2 Coupé is revealed more imposing than before. She now measures 4.54 m long and 1.84 m wide, which represents respectively 10 and 6 cm more than its predecessor, which was based on the small Series 1. All for 1.39 m high (-3 cm) and 2.74 m wheelbase (+5 cm ).

The style has been modernized and revitalized with muscular lines and widened tracks, front and rear. The headlamps (Full LED as standard) are also tapered and unhooked from a grille which is revised but not imposing as on the last Series 4. The shields have also been redesigned and largely perforated. At the rear, the 3D lights have been reworked and darkened.

On board, however, the changes are much less obvious. We find the same interior layout as on the old 2 Series Coupé however with a new steering wheel and a new central console. We also note the presence of an instrument cluster (5.1 to 12.3 inches), a central touch screen (8.8 to 10.25 inches) and sports seats.

Production of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is due to start by the end of the summer at the plant in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The arrival at the concession is scheduled for early 2022. In the meantime, the prices are already known: count at least 41 800 € (220i 184ch BVA8).

BMW officially presents the new generation 2 Series Coupe. A model that will resemble a real ORNI in the range of compacts of the German brand. Indeed, while from the new generation 1 Series to the X2, via the 2 Series Gran Coupé, all offers in this segment are now traction drives, this new coupe remains attached to the Bavarian manufacturer’s propulsion tradition. Better still, it will still have six-cylinder in-line engines..

Longer, wider, lower

This new generation takes volume compared to the current version: it is now close to 4.54 m in length (+ 10.5 cm) and 1.84 m in width (+ 6.4 cm). Its wheelbase has lengthened by 5.1 cm, to 2.74 m, and its tracks are 5.4 cm wider at the front (1.58 m) and 3.1 cm at the rear ( 1.59 m). Note that for the M240i version, these tracks are even wider: + 6.3 cm at the front and + 3.5 cm at the rear. The only side revised downwards: the height (- 2.8 cm) which tops out at 1.39 m.

Classic and athletic style

These new dimensions greatly modify the proportions of this 2 Series Coupe to further improve its seating on the road. BMW has kept the codes of the model with a notchback silhouette giving pride of place to the long engine hood. Fans of the Bavarian manufacturer will notice the presence of the famous hofmeister fold at the end of the rear quarter window. A striking element of BMW which tends to disappear on its recent productions. In detail, the graphic elements have followed the same treatment as the dimensions of the car: the optics have grown, the fenders are muscular, and the beans of the grille have taken on volume, without however falling into the excesses of the coupe. Series 4. To stick to this more athletic spirit, the front hood is adorned with a dome announcing the color in terms of engine power.

The models are fluid, the lines are not protruding, and the whole leads to an imposing stern, but more sober than on the Gran Coupé version. The lights do not stretch on the trunk which, for its part, adopts a very light spoiler directly integrated into the body. The M240i version further accentuates the feature with specific rocker panels, enlarged tailpipes and exterior mirrors directly inspired by those of the M3 / M4.

An interior of BMW 4 Series

The interior presentation betrays the origins of this coupe. Indeed, the furniture and its layout are taken directly from the Series 4, with which the Series 2 shares its CLAR platform. On the dashboard sits a central touch screen (up to 10.25 inches) that seems to want to make common cause with the digital instrumentation (with a maximum size of 12.3 inches). To accentuate its sporting spirit, the coupé receives sport seats and a leather steering wheel as standard. The M240i is distinguished on board by a saddlery incorporating Alcantara. At the rear, the bench seats only two passengers, and it can be split according to the 40/20/40 ratio, which generously increases the volume of the boot. When the seats are in place, it remains confined to 390 l, as on the current generation. However, BMW announces a loading threshold placed 3.5 cm lower.

A propulsion architecture

For the chassis part, as mentioned above, this coupe is based on the technical basis of BMW CLAR, which allows it to remain faithful to the propulsion. The Series 2 takes directly the suspension arms of its big sister, the Series 4, for weight gain and better rigidity. The M Sport finish has stronger suspensions, more sporty variable steering, an electronically controlled rear differential as well as a specific braking system. Adaptive suspension is optional.

4 and 6 cylinders under the hood

Under the hood, the range offered by BMW puts a smile on your face. At the top is the 3.0 inline 6 cylinder of the M240i xDrive. It develops 374 hp, i.e. 34 hp more than the current version of this block, for a torque of 500 Nm. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds. If the car has all-wheel drive as standard, it is not the technology of recent M3 / M4 or M5 / M8: the system cannot be disconnected to benefit from a very playful propulsion.

The Bavarian manufacturer also offers a more accessible version: the 220i Coupé equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder developing 184 hp for a torque of 300 Nm. It allows the car to perform 0 to 100 km / h in 7 , 5 seconds. But this coupe is also available with a diesel unit (220d): the 2.0L 4-cylinder with 190 hp and 400 Nm which offers acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds. This version is associated with a light hybridization via a 48 V battery. In all cases, the 8-speed automatic transmission is standard. The M240i coupe can receive, as an option, a Sport gearbox offering shorter gears, a Launch Control mode or even the Sprint function for quick overtaking. Note that BMW will subsequently offer a sulphurous M2.

A minimum standard endowment
