Italian design house Pininfarina is developing an all-electric pickup truck from American startup Hercules Electric Vehicles.

The first car from Hercules will be called the Alpha. It exists on several sketches of the brand’s designers. Atelier Pininfarina will design the Alpha as well as many other models for the new automaker.

Hercules founder and CEO James Breuer said in a statement that Pininfarina are considered the world’s leading manufacturers of high performance and luxury vehicles with over 90 years of experience designing models for Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo.

The prototype is capable of accelerating to 200 km / h, and the production car will be able to deliver a speed of 230 km / h due to the 500-horsepower engine. You will have to pay for such a car a round sum – at least 120,000 euros.

The main advantages are called the huge range and quick refueling.

It will be possible to drive 1,000 km and refill the cylinders in just 3 minutes. All this is a great advantage over electric machines.

A first rolling prototype

The California-based firm that created the Alpha Wolf Plus compact electric pickup truck has unveiled the original version of the upcoming novelty called Wolf + Cloudbreak.

The name Cloudbreak comes from the German company Heimplanet, which specializes in camping and adventure gear. Alpha partnered with Heimplanet to create a custom version of the Cloudbreak geodesic tent that matches Wolf, essentially turning the back of the truck into a platform to which the tent is attached.

Two access points at the back allow tourists to get inside, and the structure itself is considered extremely durable for extreme camping.

“Cloudbreak is a design we’ve been working on for quite some time,” said Heimplanet co-founder Stefan Klaus. “We were looking for the perfect structure that guarantees stability and provides easy access. The all-electric pickup has been dubbed the Wolf Plus, with seats and doors for added versatility to the regular two-door Wolf that the company unveiled last month.

The truck is still small, its length is 5150 mm, while it received a loading platform of 1652 mm and can accommodate four people. The company says the pickup will offer a range of 402-437 km, with power coming from either a twin-engine four-wheel drive unit or a single-engine rear-wheel drive unit. It will accelerate to 96 km / h in 5.9 seconds. This result is not the best for an electric car, but it is enough for everyday driving. Its towing capacity is 3050 kg.

The design of the pickup truck is surprisingly minimalist inside and out. The trunk is not overly stylized, but features simple design lines. Wide fenders and large chunky tires give it a rugged look, although the truck retains the brand’s retro-centric theme.

The interior is surprisingly minimalistic. There are two screens on the flat dashboard – one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment display. The only noticeable switchgear is on the steering wheel.

Alpha does not provide details on the truck’s accessories, but the photos show a roof basket, an elongated body extension, a solar panel that fits into the body, and a massive tent that covers the truck’s body and extends beyond the pickup.
