France's former fencing world champion Ysaora Thibus has come under suspicion of doping and has to fear being eliminated from the foil competitions at the Olympic Games in Paris. The French federation suspended the 32-year-old until further notice after the analysis of her doping control at the World Cup in Paris in mid-January revealed “an abnormal result”. Ostarine, which is classified as an anabolic steroid by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) in its banned list, was detected in the abnormal sample.
Thibus “has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” said the ITA agency responsible for the tests. If this confirms the result of the A sample, “the case will be considered a confirmed anti-doping rule violation.” Thibus, who won the individual title in Cairo in 2022 and won Olympic silver in the team in Tokyo a year earlier, protests her innocence. The association has not yet provided any public information about the results of its doping control.
