The German brand has a long tradition of “super wagons” and the RS6 Avant is the quintessence of Audi's specific logic. As the model prepares to welcome its new generation which will have a more intense electric element including in its options pure electric drive and plug-in hybrid technology and, although Audi has already presented a hard-core version called Performance, such as everything seems to have decided to give the imposing wagon another chance, presenting an upcoming collector's edition that will be built in 660 copies.
The new version, which adds the distinctive GT to its name, is equipped with the 4.0-liter V8 engine in the same configuration as the Performance version, with an output of 630 hp and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the four-wheel drive system is courtesy of Audi Sport.
Despite the same dimensions as the Performance version, thanks to a series of targeted chassis and suspension improvements the RS6 Avant GT is 1/10th of a second faster in the 0-100km/h process which it completes in 3.3 seconds .
As for suspension changes, it gets new springs and manually adjustable shock absorbers as well as new front and rear anti-roll bars that are 30% and 80% stiffer respectively. As a result of the above, the GT has 1.0 cm less ground clearance than the “simple” RS6. In any case, both air suspension and hydraulically controlled DRC suspension are available as options.
Audi chose to “dress up” the above changes of the most extreme expression of the RS6 Avant with elements inspired by the legendary Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO racer.
So the new version adopts the same tricolor white, red, black and white 22-inch wheels with a retro design. New features include a carbon fiber hood for the first time in RS6 history, while the fenders and front wheel air vents have been redesigned to benefit aerodynamics.
It should be noted that many of the elements of the RS6 Avant GT such as the carbon fiber bonnet, fenders, bumpers, spoiler and suspension are handcrafted by designers and engineers.
The interior is dominated by bucket seats made of carbon fiber and upholstered in Alcantara with red stitching, while in order to leave no doubt about the collectability of the edition, the dashboard welcomes a plaque with the numbering of each of the 660 copies.
