Road tests of the new BMW electric crossover with the NA5 index continue. It will become the first representative of the Neue Klasse family and will replace the current iX3 in the manufacturer’s lineup.
A camouflaged prototype of the new product was noticed during testing at low temperatures. It combines traditional BMW features with modern solutions. The electric car received a wide hood, a plug in place of the radiator grille, narrowed LED optics and a bumper with a large air intake. The roof is sloping and a massive spoiler is visible at its end.
The Neue Klasse platform on which the new crossover is built uses an 800 V electrical architecture. This will allow the company to offer a new product with one and two motors with a power of up to 600 hp. The new product also promises Gen6 batteries developed by BMW, which use cylindrical cells with high energy density. Power reserve on one charge is up to 800 km.
It is expected that the production of the new product will be established at the BMW plant in Munich (Germany) or Mexico. Later, the company plans to introduce a version of the iX3 with an extended wheelbase. Now this model is known under the code name NA6. It will be intended for the Chinese market.
