The Russian army is moving reserves to try to break through the Ukrainian defense lines west of Bakhmut in the direction of Chasovy Yar. Positional battles continued near Bogdanovka, Kleshcheevka and in the Ivanovo direction, said analysts from the Institute for the Study of War.
The Ukrainian armed forces advanced in the Bakhmut area of the Donetsk region. This was reported by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War in a daily report for February 3.
“Ukrainian forces have recently advanced slightly southwest of Bakhmut,” the report said.
According to geolocation footage from February 3, elements of the 85th Separate Motorized Brigade (2nd Army Corps of the “LPR”) attacked Ukrainian fighters operating in a wooded area east of Kleshchiyevka, which, according to preliminary estimates by analysts, was under Russian control . As a result, this indicates that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have recently recaptured positions in this area.
According to a Russian source, the occupiers advanced along an unspecified road in the direction of Ivanivske, west of Bakhmut, and captured new heights north and northwest of Kleshchievka, while Ukrainian fighters recaptured several positions north of Bogdanovka, northwest of Bakhmut. However, ISW found no visual evidence to support these claims.
In addition, positional battles continued near Bogdanovka, Kleshchievka and in the Ivanovo direction. According to Ilya Yevlash, a representative of the Eastern Group of Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian command is transferring reserves to the Bakhmut direction to break through the Ukrainian defense lines in the west of Bakhmut in the direction of Chasovy Yar. The Russian source also claimed that units of the Sibir reconnaissance and assault brigade operated near Soledar.
