Unnecessary fine on the highway from the police
An expired license plate is unnecessary and can be a costly liability if law enforcement officers determine that it obstructs the driver's view. The more stickers – for example from different countries – you collect on your car, the more beautiful your collection will be, but the risk of a penalty also increases.
The law in Switzerland provides the following rule: there must be a clear view of traffic from a height of 75 centimeters above the driver's seat in a semicircle with a radius of twelve meters.
We can certainly have a long debate about whether old invalid highway signs are a visual obstacle or not – especially if they are all located in one place, for example on the left edge of the windshield. Specifically, in Switzerland, the fines for such an offense vary by region, but they can also be at the level of 200 francs, which translates to 213 euros. It is better not to rely on great tolerance on the part of the police and officials.
