According to the Deputy Prime Minister, there are more than 4.9 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine, of which 2.5 million receive monthly payments.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk said that payments to internally displaced persons (IDPs) will be optimized. She announced this on air at the national telethon.
According to her, this is due to a decrease in the revenue side of Ukraine’s budget and the demands of international partners.
“We are directly tied to the decisions of our partners. Partners set requirements to constantly verify payments in order to reduce or optimize them. The point is that, according to international standards, 2 years is enough to adapt,” Vereshchuk explained.
How much money did Ukraine pay to displaced people?
In 2022, Ukraine allocated 57 billion hryvnia for payments to displaced people. In 2023, this amount increased to 73 billion hryvnia. It is planned that in 2024 the money for assistance for IDPs will again amount to about 57 billion hryvnia.
How many people receive payments?
According to Vereshchuk, there are more than 4.9 million internally displaced people in Ukraine, of which 2.5 million receive monthly payments. She emphasized that the number of displaced people is constantly changing due to migration and the return of people, but also noted an increase in their number due to evacuation from front-line areas.
“The vulnerable should continue to receive payments, and those who, for example, have already adapted, or received housing, or have a well-paid job… the approaches should be more fair,” Vereshchuk noted.
Let us remind you that the international organization ACTED will pay 3.6 thousand hryvnia in aid to Ukrainians. The Ministry of Reintegration explained who can apply for support.
It was previously reported that some Ukrainians with IDP status will lose payments from February 1. The human rights organization “Ten Kvitnya” explained that financial assistance to IDPs is prescribed by law for six months.
