By last Maywhen Alpine introduced the A290_bthe anticipation for the production version of this particular one concept car it was a given.
After all, it is essentially about her “hot” variant of new electric Renault 5which will show up in a few weeksin the Geneva Motor Show (February 26 – March 3). The memories from the “legendary” hot hatch Renault 5 Alpine are intense, even if this time the “heart” of the model it will be electric.
For the first time, our partners have spotted an Alpine A290 prototype to be road tested last September. Now, it's time to leave the heat and be tested in difficultsnowy, conditions in Northern Sweden, where all the electrical systems of an EV are put to the test.
In relation to the first batch of spy photos, the level of camouflage has not subsided. However, even so, it is some design elements evident and the differences with the concept car. First and… best, the “return” to conventional seating arrangement. The driver's is not mounted centrallyas in the original, but normally, with that of the passenger next to it.
Moreover, there are 5 doorswith the rear door handles in place in the C pillar. A significant difference, too, is the 19-inch wheels, which they also have more “simple” design than the concept but also of the first test car. They have been developed in collaboration with Michelinwhich will also supply special tires.
As for the brakeswill be preserved four-piston calipers which one meets in A110but they will have the necessary modifications and work with the energy recovery system through braking. Overall the design is more “aggressive” compared to corresponding to the Renault 5 prototypeswith wider fenders, sharper side skirts, sporty bumpers and a rear spoiler.
The Alpine A290 will be based on the AmpR Small platform (former CMF-B EV) of the Renault Group, which will have minor modificationsaccording to earlier statements by the chief designer, Antony Villainin order to highlight the sporty character of the model and driving pleasure that will offer.
Official update on the powertrains has not been given, however the information states that the more powerful version will deliver 272 PSwhile it is not excluded that a “softer” one of them will be released initially 215 PS. Both with an electric motor and movement to front wheels. The battery is expected to have an energy capacity 52 kWhoffering autonomy of the order of 400 km.
THE presentation of the new Alpine A290 is expected on second half of 2024.
