The university claims that the information published in the media about the supply of products for cadets at inflated prices is “unfounded” and “does not reflect the actual circumstances.”
The Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (KNU) announced an internal audit in connection with media reports about the purchase of food for cadets of the Ministry of Defense at inflated prices. This is stated on the official website of the educational institution.
It is reported that the university has been providing military nutrition services to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for a long time, and the execution of military food contracts is constantly under the control of the defense department and other authorized bodies.
The KNU noted that in 2023, an audit of the provision of food for military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was carried out by the Accounting Chamber, which did not reveal any violations on the part of the university. The educational institution also commented on the prices of some products mentioned by journalists.
Thus, the university stated that the price of 333 hryvnia for the product “Frozen hake” stated in the KNU catalog is “an unfortunate technical error.” The university claims that not a single kilogram of the fish mentioned was purchased at this price.
The KNU noted that the university has prepared an appeal to the Department of Resource Provision of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with a request to enter into an additional agreement to adjust the price of the product “Frozen Hake” in accordance with the market price, which is 93 hryvnia.
“We would like to thank the public for identifying a typo in the catalog and assure that the system of implemented procurement control at the University would make such purchases impossible,” the message says.
In addition, the KNU believes that purchases of the “Drinking Water” item at 8 hryvnia are “properly justified,” since, according to the State Statistics Service, the average price for mineral water is 22 hryvnia.
“It can already be argued that the information published in the media about the overstatement is unfounded, because it does not reflect the actual circumstances. The university continues its internal review and is ready for dialogue with representatives of the public and the media,” the university said.
Contracts of KNU named after. Shevchenko from the Ministry of Defense: what is known
The portal “Our Money” reported on January 18 that on December 29, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine entered into agreements worth 55 million hryvnia with two Kyiv universities to provide food for personnel of educational institutions. According to journalists, the prices in these contracts are much higher than in other defense suppliers.
The publication mentions such items as “Frozen hake” for 333 hryvnia, “Rye bread” for 41.41 hryvnia, “Drinking water” for 8 hryvnia, “Canned beef” for 180 hryvnia and other products.
Let us recall that on January 9, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vitaly Polovenko announced that the Ministry of Defense was terminating all contracts with companies associated with the Grinkevich family, which is involved in a corruption scandal.
Earlier, on November 9, the media reported that the Ministry of Defense spent two billion hryvnia on three procurement contracts for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, but all the deals failed and the goods were not delivered to the military.
