As for the latest possible price hike, nothing is on paper yet, but this one the unpopular step is mentioned by the state itself in the so-called impact clause – it is a proposed amendment to the highway stamp law. It introduces a one-day highway stamp, based on the new rules of Brussels.
Until the end of March 2024, motorists in Slovakia will receive a new second stamp, which, according to the latest published information, will cost 5.40 euros. It can’t even be more expensive. The European Union has stipulated that the price of the novelty can be no more than nine percent of the annual highway price (€60 mentioned in the SR).
If the state wanted to collect more revenue from the sale of the shortest stamp, it would have to raise the prices of the annual version as well. And that would be enough affected a large group of “domestic” motorists, while with the one-day stamp there is an assumption that it will be used to a great extent – in addition to residents of the Slovak Republic – by foreign drivers as well, who only pass through our country on a given calendar day.
