Ukrainians are concerned about a possible reduction in pension payments. The publication “On Pensions” explained what affects pensions and whether they will be paid in February 2024.
In December 2023, Economy Minister Yuri Sviridenko, in a commentary to the Financial Times, said that Ukraine could delay paying salaries to civil servants and pensions to the elderly if the promised financial assistance at the beginning of the year from the EU and the US is not reliable.
The highest and lowest pensions: what payments do Ukrainians currently receive?
Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich noted that indexation of pensions may not take place in March 2024 if there is no international financial assistance. According to her, there are no problems with financing current pensions, but money may not be found to index pensions.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal said that pensions to Ukrainians will be paid on time. He assured that the indexation of pensions will take place in March 2024, as provided by law. According to Shmygal, Ukraine has agreements with 11 countries on multi-year financing programs.
Let us remind you that from January 1 there was an increase in the cost of living and the minimum wage, as a result of which the pensions of Ukrainians were recalculated. Thus, the maximum pension in the country increased from 20,930 hryvnia to 23,610 hryvnia, and the minimum from 2,093 to 2,361 hryvnia.
It was previously reported that Ukrainians can pay personalized charitable contributions to the Pension Fund. In particular, 70% of the amount will be paid to the pensioner, and 30% will be a resource for paying the remaining pensions.
