New radars will reveal an offense committed by many
Several motorists in Germany will start to worry about a new type of camera that will record and send a fine by post if they use a mobile phone in an illegal way while driving, ie without using a hands-free kit, for example. The portal Heute.at informs about it.
A fine of 128 euros is threatened by the German authorities for such an action. While originally such sanctions were handed out only by the police in the classic form, in order to perform control more efficiently, some German states decided to introduce a new type of modern radar. They will send the sanction automatically. The cameras detect whether the driver is holding a mobile phone and, on the basis of this, record motorists in the act.
Currently, the country is preparing the necessary legal framework, or more precisely, a change in the law. Rhineland-Palatinate, a federal state in the southwest of Germany, successfully completed the pilot project in 2022. The first facilities there are to be put into normal operation already this year.
The system is not completely new, for example it is also used in another European country, the Netherlands.
