The first period of the competition passed without objections and appeals, with the possibility that it will be completed by the end of the summer being extremely possible.
The construction of the Ioannina-Kakavia highway will be with four-lane cross-section specifications, while it will have a total of 14 uneven junctions and its width will be 12.5 meters. Based on the schedule, the tender for the project is expected to be announced at the end of January 2023. The Giannena-Kakavia project has a budget of 295 million euros and will be financed by the NSRF of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, while the Ionia-Kalogirou-Zefyros bridge connection Preveza and Parga-Mesopotamos from the NSPA of the Region of Epirus.
The project will be implemented in two parts. The Ioannina-Kalpaki section will be auctioned as the main project and the Kalpaki-Kakavia section will proceed as an option. The road will start with a connection to an uneven junction on Egnatia Odos. The remaining nodes are planned to be built in the following locations: Kosmira-Asvestochori, Grammenochoria, Passaronos, Zitsas, Karyes, Kalpaki, Doliana, Ravenia, Vissani, Delvinaki, Zavrocho, Kitsmata, Kakavia.
The road connection Ioannina-Kakavia must be designed as a closed expressway type, with controlled entrances and exits and with a traffic limit of 110 km per hour. The section from Ioannina to Kalpaki will be promoted for construction as a closed highway with three lanes in each direction, keeping in force all the expropriated lands, so that if the need arises in the future it can be converted into four, while with the same reasoning the uneven junctions that included in the quadrilateral cross-sectional study. For the section from Kalpaki to Kakavia, the study will apply with the additions made by the Technical Services of the Region, so that it will also be closed.
