Almost 6 decades it was forgotten an impressive looking car who never managed to write his name in golden letters in the history of motoring. We refer to MacMinn LeMans Cup which they identified after years its current owners and devoting several hours of work they managed to restore its original shine.
The inspiration for the creation of the car in the distant 1958 was born in their minds John Bond και Strother MacMinn. The former was a designer, engineer and editor of the famous car magazine Road & Track which belongs to Hearst Groupas well as Greek Car and Driver.
O MacMinnwho also gave his name to the car, was teaching design at Art Center College of Pasadena, USA. In addition to the halls, McMinn also worked in her studio Buick while he was the one who designed it Ford Captain.
The two joined their passion for cars and started setting up the MacMinn LeMans Coup, not so much to get it into production, but to to implement the ideas and their knowledge. The end result, with the aerodynamic design, was impressive and gave the green light for the car to appear on the cover of Road & Track.
In total they were built 6-7 units, however only three are known to be located today. The one that appeared on Jay Leno’s show she is the only one who can move. Obviously, in order to reach this state, the two current owners, the Dennis Kazmerowski and Alan Fudge to devote countless hours of work.
The former did most of the repairs and revealed that they were needed almost 3,000 hours and 20 months for the car to take the form you see. The framework was built from scratch, large quantities of fiberglass they closed the holes while one was placed inside 1957 V8 Corvette. The total weight barely exceeds the 900 kg and its almost bare cabin has contributed enough to this.
Driving it, Jay Leno found that visibility is quite good as is the sound coming out of the exhaust. Anyway the “creaky” doors, combined with his build, they didn’t make it easy for him especially to get into the car and sit in the driver’s seat.
