HNismo has earned a special place in the pantheon of the performance world, refining in the way that only the Japanese can support every part of the GT-R and Z-Car since the 80s. It is now tackling its first mass production electric venture, aspiring to maintain its legend in the new era that is emerging for motoring.
The reason of course is the Nissan Ariya Nismo which welcomes not one but two Nismo signature performance versions from the Tokyo Auto Salon that opened its doors on January 12th.
Both Nismo versions adopt, as one would easily guess, the twin-engine layout combined with the Japanese e-4ORCE four-wheel drive system. The first, “B6” as it is called, promises a combined power of 367 hp and 560 Nm of torque promising the balance between performance and everyday use, while in the case of the second B9, the available power climbs to 435 hp and 600 Nm of torque, covering with more than you could ask for in an electric SUV with a family character.
Besides, as in every other model bearing the signature of Nismo, so in this case, the relevant upgrade is not only about the absolute sizes but with the overall detailed approach of the tuning house that has redesigned every element of the frame in order to supports Ariya’s new aspirations.
According to the recommendations, the characteristics, changes and equipment of the Ariya with Michelin tires specially designed for the electric occasion, Pilot Sport EV with dimension 255/40 R20, guarantee greater dynamic stability and the possibility for a more dynamic driving at high speeds and sharp changes of direction despite its bulk.
In this direction, Nismo has created an additional driving program called ta which increases the response of all “critical” elements in favor of more dynamics, accompanying the sound experience reminiscent of a Formula E racing car.
At the same time, the changes in the external appearance of the Ariya are not only aimed at identifying it as a Nismo development product but also at strengthening those aerodynamic characteristics that will ensure more downforce. So the Ariya features a redesigned bumper with a new pre-tensioned splitter and new air intakes while the same applies to the rear section which houses a large spoiler at the top of the luggage door and a new bumper complemented by the presence of a new diffuser. The image is completed by the red details which extend to strategic points of the interior which also features Nismo sports seats with suede upholstery.
Nissan is not yet releasing performance figures, noting only that the B6 version is equipped with the smallest 66 kWh battery, while the more powerful B9 is equipped with 91 kWh. What he also does not specify is his European perspective, although this should probably be taken for granted.
