In accordance with Car Motor and Sportthe Volkswagen about to delay the start of production of ID.2which is intended to sit at the base of its range, as one economical and small electric vehiclewhose cost will not exceed 25,000 euros.
This development comes as a result of of reduced -finally- strictness of the new standard Euro 7 regulationswhich will allow manufacturers to manufacture and sell cars with MEK for a longer period of time than originally indicated.
THE EU “bowed” to the pressures of the car companies, which forced it to make the regulations less strictafter emission levels to be kept the same with those of the current ones, Euro 6.
The German media reports that the Volkswagen will reveal its production version ID. 2all concept the 2025but production will start on 2026, i.e. one year later than originally planned. This will place the ID.2 behind them its electric and equally economical rivals, such as the Citroen e-C3 for exampleregarding the time frame.
The CEO of the company, Thomas Schaferalso explained the company’s strategy regarding the management of manufactured cars. He said that the VW will only manufacture the 80% of expected demand of each model, so as to avoid the accumulation of unsold unitsin case the demand is not the desired one.
It is worth noting that the Volkswagen had to temporarily stop production of electric vehicles in Europe, due to reduced demand. THE Schafer stated that if a product proves to be so successful that there will not be enough stock then it will additional shifts are added in the factories of the German company.
