A group of Odessa developers “Tekhnari” has created universal simulators for air defense fighters called “Chaika”. The head of the engineering group, Gennady Suldin, wrote about this on his Facebook page on Wednesday, December 27.
He noted that the simulators allow, in a few weeks of daily training, to improve the skills of eliminating Iranian Shahed drones and enemy cruise missiles from Igla MANPADS and 12.7-mm machine guns in the dark

“Preliminary month-long testing in five air defense teams proved the high effectiveness of training and brought purely positive feedback,” Suldin wrote.
He also added that the first Chaikas had already been sent to the combat zone to the military of the 28th Separate Guards Mechanized Brigade. In addition, Gennady Suldin added that a new development should be expected in February 2024 – a simulator that simulates a fire attack from small arms of 7.62 mm caliber.
What is the Chaika simulator?
As blogger Sergei Naumovich, who has already tested the new technological development, wrote on his page, “Chaika” is a computer simulator with an augmented reality system. It completely imitates the searchlight that illuminates the Shahed, the speed of the Shahed itself, the real flight of a machine-gun burst, and the work of the Needle with a thermal imager when working on targets. In order to start a training attack on an enemy drone, you need to put on VR glasses and start controlling the virtual weapon using two round “joysticks”. The simulator allows you to customize the battle scenario, as well as program the distance to the target “for yourself” and set other important parameters.
“A few weeks ago, I personally already tried to shoot down Shaheds and missiles using a simulator with an augmented reality system. I shot down several virtual missiles from Igla, but not a single Shahed from a machine gun, because it’s really difficult,” wrote Sergei Naumovich.
He also expressed the opinion that training and advanced training of military personnel using such a domestic simulator is still the best option for solving the problem of training fighters of mobile air defense groups.
“How to train mobile groups to shoot down, for example, “Shaheds” with a machine gun? In principle, you can make similar drones and shoot them down as training targets at training grounds. But such training will be very expensive. It is also unknown when such UAVs will appear. That is, it will take a lot of time,” the blogger noted.
Let us recall that in November the army tested a robotic air defense system that “jumps out” from a container and shoots down drones. Such a defensive tower is easy to transport from place to place and can destroy even light armored vehicles.
