Representative of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuri Ignat hinted that three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers could have been shot down by a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.
Ukrainian defenders successfully destroyed three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers when enemy aircraft pilots tried to get as close as possible to attack Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters. Representative of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat spoke about this on the air of Army TV and Ukrainian Radio.
The colonel emphasized that Ukrainian fighters managed to “detect” the pilots of Russian Su-34 fighters suddenly, and the subsequent operation was quick and effective, demonstrating the high skill of our army.
“The Russians became insolent, flew closer, and tried to use guided bombs to strike at a greater depth in the defense of our troops,” he said.
Ignat added that 500-kg KABs can fly 20-25 km, but “when you want and your hands are itching to strike, then… you need to fly closer.”
“They took a bad risk. We hope the occupiers will take more such risks,” the speaker added.
Also, the representative of the Armed Forces noted that similar cases of liquidation of aircraft of the Russian Armed Forces had previously taken place near Zmeiny Island and in the Russian Bryansk region. According to him, the enemy “gets impudent” without learning from past experience.
“The Ukrainian military destroyed three “fat” targets at once at the beginning of the Russian aggression, when the enemy behaved brazenly, actually flying over Ukrainian cities,” he said.
Ignat also expressed the opinion that the destruction of three enemy aircraft was a “top event”, and after this Russian pilots will probably think three times before approaching the borders of Ukraine.
In addition, a representative of the Ukrainian Air Force hinted that the Russian Su-34s were shot down with the help of the Patriot air defense system. He published a post on Facebook and added a photo of an American air defense missile launcher.
“I felt yesterday that my holiday was approaching,” Ignat wrote.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down three Russian Su-34s: what is known
On December 22, the Air Force reported that three Russian Su-34 fighters were shot down at once. This was announced by the commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Nikolai Oleshchuk. Russian bloggers confirmed multiple combat losses.
It was also reported that on December 6, the Russians complained about the destroyed Su-24 in the Black Sea. Representatives of the Russian Federation admitted that the bomber, working under the cover of a fighter, was shot down by a MIM-104 Patriot air defense system from the Odessa region.
As I wrote Focus, Ukrainian aviation expert Valery Romanenko admits that the Patriot air defense system was used in the operation to eliminate these aircraft. According to him, Russian planes in the southern direction sometimes dropped up to hundreds of KAB guided bombs.
On December 22, Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat called the operation “brilliantly planned.” He emphasized that Su-34 aircraft have not appeared in the statistics of losses of the Russian Armed Forces for a long time.
Note that not all pilots managed to survive as a result of the destruction of three Russian Su-34s. Russian military bloggers reported that the bodies of the pilots were evacuated from the crash site.
