The outgoing year was marked by the anniversary of a luxury car, the flagship model – Renault 25. The car debuted in November 1983, and went on sale in March of the following year.
The other day, an Autocenter correspondent managed to photograph one such car in Kyiv. As you can see, this is a restyled model from 1988, featuring different front and rear lighting technology.
Renault 25 caused a sensation in its time. The five-door liftback body worked well in terms of aerodynamics – the Cd coefficient was only 0.28. This helped the car become one of the most economical in its class. One of the characteristic features of the exterior was the convex rear window – a feature of designer Robert Opron, also used in such famous models as the Renault Fuego and Renault 11.
No less original was the interior, which was worked on by Marcelo Gandini, who had a hand in Lamborghini models. The Renault 25 was one of the first to feature a remote control for the radio, located to the right of the steering column.
Also innovative was the on-board computer, which, using voice messages, informed the driver about open doors, the hood or trunk lid, as well as such important parameters as oil pressure, coolant temperature and burnt out light bulbs.
Various power units were offered for cars. This is a gasoline carburetor engine of 2.0 liters and 103 liters. s., as well as its version with injection – 120 liters. With. An injection 2.2-liter engine with 123 hp was also available. With. The latter was replaced in 1988 by a two-liter 12-valve engine with 140 horsepower.
As befits a flagship, V-shaped “sixes” could also be installed under the hood, also with injection – a displacement of 2.7 liters and 2.9 liters in 144 and 160 liters. With. The most powerful was the turbocharged 2.5-liter V6 with 182 hp. s., and then 205 l. With. In the latter case, the car accelerated to 233 km/h. Diesels were represented by a 2.1-liter engine – in naturally aspirated and supercharged versions, in 65 and 88 hp. With. respectively. From 1983 to 1992, 780,976 Renault 25 cars were manufactured and today they are becoming increasingly rare on the roads.
