3. The end of pink driver’s licenses
The originally unlimited pink drivers are coming to an end. As of January 1, 2014, the validity of driving licenses issued between January 1, 1993 and April 30, 2004 expires. They were originally supposed to be valid forever. However, drivers must now replace them, otherwise they will not be able to drive in road traffic from 2024.
Starting in January, the law enforcers will take away such old driver’s licenses if they are found in your possession during traffic checks. Therefore, be careful and change your license quickly if you haven’t done so yet.
4. Opening of the expressway in the north of Slovakia
We do not expect many new highways next year. They will open two new motorway sections, although in one case it is only a motorway feeder for the future D3 motorway. With the second, we are talking about one section of the R3 expressway on Orava Tvrdošín – Nižná.
In both cases, it concerns infrastructural constructions in the north of Slovakia, which were supposed to be completed already this year. However, due to delays, their handover to motorists was postponed until 2024.
5. Increase in fees for license plates and driver’s licenses
The state has also prepared news for us, which are not very pleasing. From April 2024, there will be a change in traffic inspectorates, many fees for motorists will become more expensive.
In particular, it will be a significant increase in the price of license plates – as regards the issuance of EČV tables in the usual form as well as the collected fees related to them. However, the registration of the car itself will remain without price changes. However, we will pay more in Slovakia, for example, for issuing a driver’s license, which will also become more expensive.
Behind the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, one can see the high rate of inflation in all sectors across the entire economy, but one should not forget the increased pressure on the government to consolidate public finances.
