If you choose the right operating modes for household electrical appliances, you can significantly reduce the amount on your bills.
Paying electricity bills each month takes up a significant portion of the budget of many Ukrainians. In order to pay less for electricity, some refuse to use even the most necessary household appliances. The publication Merkur spoke about how to maintain the level of comfort that electrical appliances provide us and reduce the amount on bills.
Set the correct refrigerator temperature
You can save energy by setting up your refrigerator correctly. Assess what foods you store most often. If you don’t always have fresh meat in your refrigerator, then setting the temperature to 2°C does not make sense. For most other products, it will be enough to select a temperature within 5-7°C. By slightly raising the temperature in the refrigerator, you will immediately reduce electricity consumption.
If you have a freezer, do not set the freeze setting to maximum. At a temperature of -30°C, products can be stored for years, and for current stocks for a month or two it will be enough to keep the temperature at a level of -15 to -18°C.
Save with a dishwasher
Modern dishwashers most often have an “Eco” program. In this mode, dishes are washed a little longer, but less electricity and water are consumed, since washing occurs at lower temperatures. Additionally, the machine does not waste electricity cooling dishes after washing.
If there is no “Eco” mode, just select a program with a temperature of 45-55°C. Also, refuse quick wash programs – these are the most energy-consuming modes.
Use more oven capabilities to pay less
When cooking food in the oven, use the convection mode. On the one hand, this mode consumes more electricity due to the operation of an additional fan, on the other hand, the movement of hot air in the oven speeds up the cooking process, and the temperature can be reduced by 5-10 degrees.
To cook most dishes in the oven, you can use another energy-saving life hack: turn off the heat 5-10 minutes before the end of cooking. The heat in the oven is enough for the food to reach the desired condition during this time.
Double the benefits of washing in Eco mode
The “Eco” mode in washing machines is similar to this mode in dishwashers. Washing time increases, and water and energy consumption decreases. In addition, after washing at low temperatures, things will retain their decent appearance much longer.
But if you use a clothes dryer, do not skimp on the spin speed. This way your dryer will need less time to work, which means you will also spend less electricity.
In addition, do not forget that in good weather, laundry can dry perfectly in the fresh air on its own.
And one last piece of advice: if you are planning to buy new household appliances, pay attention to their energy consumption class. The most economical electrical appliances are marked with energy consumption class A+++.
