Julian Lennon admitted that the classic hit “Hey Jude” always evokes sad emotions in him.
Julian Lennon, son of the late John Lennon, has revealed for the first time that the Beatles hit will always be a somber song for him that will always remind him of the “pain caused by his parents’ divorce” and “the fact that he rarely saw his famous father.” The Daily Mail writes about this.
According to Julian, Beatles superstar Sir Paul McCartney wrote the song “Hey Jude” to comfort Julian and his mother Cynthia after their 1968 separation and John Lennon’s affair with Yoko Ono. Julian was very close to Paul as a child, who supported him and his mother when Lennon was not around.
“It’s a great feeling, there’s no doubt about it, and I’m very grateful for it, but it also drove me crazy,” Julian said.
“I love the fact that he wrote a song about me and for my mother, but depending on what side of the bed you wake up on and where you hear it, it could be good or it could be the opposite – very sad,” admitted Lennon’s son .
He said he saw his father “maybe a couple of times” before John Lennon was shot dead on December 8, 1980 in New York.
Lennon’s fans sometimes quote “Hey Jude” to him, he says, without realizing that “there’s a lot of pain behind what happened.”
“Every time you quote it to me, it reminds me of my mother’s separation from my father, of lost love, of the fact that I rarely saw my dad. A lot of people don’t quite understand how emotional and personal this piece is.” says Julian. According to him, he cannot just “pull himself together, dust himself off and be happy.”
Musician Julian Lennon released his seventh album, entitled Jude, in honor of his father’s band and this song.
Recall that John Charles Julian Lennon was born on April 8, 1963. It was named after Julia, John’s mother. The Beatles manager Brian Epstein became Julian’s godfather.
John also has a son with Yoko Ono. Sean Taro Ono Lennon was born in 1975. Elton John became his godfather. Sean is friends with the other Beatles’ children, but has never been close to Julian.
Let us remember that the former assistant of Lennon and Yoko Ono, May Tang, openly spoke about her relationship with the legendary musician. It turned out that Ono approved of her relationship with John. And even pushed her into a relationship with him.
