THE Red Bull comfortably took the championship this year, with 21 wins in 22 races, 19 of which by hand Max Verstappen.
And while the McLaren improved dramatically during the season and went from 8th power for a while to 2nd, ending the ranking 4th, the CEO Zak Brown wonders if the champions finally let their foot off the gas early:
“The million dollar question is: how early did Red Bull stop developing their car this year?
“We know we did a better job than the competition in development during the year, and we know we closed the gap on Red Bull, but none of us know if Red Bull stopped development and we caught up, or if they continued.
Moreover, towards the end of 2023the AlphaTauri (soon to be renamed in view of 2024) started to bring enough extensive upgradeswhich helped her significantly to finish 8th in the championship.
Start at paddock to be talked about narrower cooperation among her team Faenza and the Red Bullto which she belongs, something that could possibly help the champion to acquire more data for her car usingfor example, time at tunnel and CFD from AT.
O head her RB, Christian Hornerwas quick to point out how not exists such issuenor have any rules been broken, but o Brown emphasized that the Formula 1 should received meters to close any “loopholes” in the regulations that the Austrian team can exploit:
“We are duly concerned about the alliance and partnership between AlphaTauri and Red Bull. It’s something we have to look at in the future.
“So I think the sport still has a way to go to ensure that all teams are truly independent.”
It is important to emphasize that the only parts allowed to be shared by two groups are (besides the engine) the gearbox and the rear suspension. After the issue with her RacingPoint the 2020the tightening of the regulations around the common parts that can have two cars has limited the teams’ movements in terms of technical collaborations and alliances.
