Writer Boris Akunin does not hide his position and publicly opposes the war in Ukraine. Because of this, he came to the attention of Russian law enforcement agencies.
67-year-old Russian fiction writer Boris Akunin, who opposes the Putin regime, was added to the register of “terrorists and extremists” and put on the wanted list. This information was reported by Russian media with reference to the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service.
It is now known that a criminal case under Article 280.3 under Russian law was opened against the writer last week. Boris was also wanted. The reason for this was that the writer is accused of publicly discrediting Russian troops.
It is also known that according to the law, the writer’s bank accounts will be frozen. Meanwhile, in Russia the sale and distribution of the book by the writer Akunin was suspended.
It is worth noting that Akunin himself lives outside of Russia, but actively opposes the war on the territory of Ukraine.
Of course, the writer did not ignore the news and reacted on his Facebook page.
“Hmm. Terrorists declared me a terrorist. However, I have not been surprised by news from the Russian Federation for a long time. It seems that the previous terrorist writer in Russia was Stepnyak-Kravchinsky, about whom I recently wrote in a novel. He, however, stabbed the chief of gendarmes. Regarding Facebook this means the following: those who live in the Russian Federation, please do not put curse words under my posts – in modern times this amounts to complicity,” Akunin wrote.
Later, he posted an official comment on his website.
“I wanted to write something disparaging in connection with the declaration of me as a terrorist in the Russian Federation – like “what does it matter to me who these goats declare me to be in their Kushchevka?” But it’s not about me. And this is not Kushchevka. This is my unfortunate homeland, which has fallen under the power of criminals. The people who live there – even those who have not yet realized it – are hostages. What awaits them next? As if a minor event, the banning of books, the declaration of some writer as a terrorist, is actually an important milestone “Books have not been banned in Russia since Soviet times. Writers have not been accused of terrorism since the Great Terror. This is not a bad dream, this is happening to Russia in reality, in fact. Take care of yourself, don’t lose yourself if you are in the Russian Federation,” he wrote writer.
