BMW and Mercedes join forces to create a high-power charging network in China.
H BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. and the Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd. they announced the conclusion of an agreement for the creation of a joint venture in China with an equal share (50:50) with the aim of operating one high power charging network and providing high-quality charging services to Chinese customers.
BMW and Mercedes-Benz will implement it expertise which they have acquired both in China and the rest of the world from charging related activities, as well as their deep knowledge of the Chinese market of New Energy Technology Vehicles (NEV), to provide fast, reliable and personalized charging solutions for the area. The cooperation aims at upgrade charging experience of customers at public stations.
The aim of the consortium is to create a network at least 1,000 stations charging high power with approx 7,000 charging columns until the end of it 2026, adopting the most modern technologies in the field. The first stations expected to operate the 2024 in areas where NEVs are experiencing high growth, with more stations being installed nationwide.
The premium charging network will be open to the general public, while its customers BMW Group and his Mercedes-Benz Group they will have at their disposal a number of exclusive features such as plug & charge and online booking for a seamless digital experience. THE joint venture intends to supply electricity generated from renewable sourceswhere conditions permit, for a sustainable and environmentally friendly charging experience.
Approval of the agreement by the relevant regulatory authorities is expected.
