The new facility will transform the care of children and young people requiring surgery by providing everything needed in one place, providing a family-centred experience that will allow the organization to treat up to an additional 2,300 children a year.
The department is located in a modern children’s day treatment center and has two completely new operating theatres. Families will benefit from same-day care, with pre-operative assessments, surgery and recovery all taking place in one specially designed room on the same day.
Catherine became a patron of the hospital in 2018 and has visited the hospital on numerous occasions since. This time she talked to patients’ families and staff about the kind of care this department already provides.
For the occasion, Kate wore a perfectly tailored turquoise Alexander McQueen suit with a double-breasted jacket and cigarette trousers, similar in color to the dress she wore to the Royal Variety Performance.
She paired her suit with a black belt, navy blue stilettos and a matching blue knit top. The princess added a shimmering necklace and sapphire and diamond earrings to complete the all-blue look. Catherine previously wore these earrings to the 2022 Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey and to a special meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife.
Prince William’s wife styled her hair in her signature wavy waves. As for her makeup, the royal highlighted her facial features with shimmering bronzer and pink blush.
Arriving at the hospital, Kate spoke with 9-year-old Ella and ten-year-old Chloe, the department’s first patients. She later cut the pink ribbon in high spirits to officially open the new surgery department. The princess beamed with joy and laughed a lot.
During her visit, Catherine viewed some of the space-themed artwork throughout the building, which was selected and created in collaboration with staff and patients to match the natural world theme of Evelina Children’s Hospital’s main building.
At the end of her visit, the Princess of Wales received a stunning bouquet of flowers, replete with eucalyptus, white roses and delicate purple flowers.
