Contactless transactions in Public Transport are coming and soon paper tickets will be a thing of the past. The beginning will be made with the bus lines that serve the “Eleftherios Venizelos” international airport.
With the system of contactless transactions, the user will not need to issue a boarding ticket from the machines. It will be enough to “pass” his bank card or his smartphone in validating devices. The aim of the new system is to drastically reduce the number of people entering the Public transport without a ticket and cost millions of euros to the coffers of the state. According to its CEO Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) Mr. Giorgos Spiliopoulos, by the end of the year the contactless transaction system will be applied to the airport buses and the goal is to apply it everywhere by the spring of 2024.
Passengers will purchase fares using electronic wallets from mobile phones, in collaboration with the appropriate application. The system to be installed will allow secure access to selected passenger accounts for execution digital transactionsin the sales equipment, in the validating machines of buses, trams and metro stations.
