EHC Red Bull Munich has shortened the gap to the top group of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The Munich team won 2-1 at home against the second-placed Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven on Friday and are now only five points behind third place in the table. Without the injured Ben Street, Jonathon Blum and Maximilian Daubner, the EHC had more of the game in the starting third, but did not score. In the middle third he came under a lot of pressure at times because the North Germans were pushing hard towards Mathias Niederberger – the German national goalkeeper made several strong saves. Chris DeSousa’s Munich 1-0 win (33′) came during the Pinguins’ greatest pressure phase. Markus Eisenschmid increased the score to 2-0 (37th). The Munich team, who are visiting the Löwen Frankfurt on Sunday (3:15 p.m.), defended the late 2-1.
