Lotus has introduced a charger that surpasses Tesla’s Superchargers in maximum power.
Charging stress in particular the time the driver is required to “spend” to replenish the battery’s energy remains one of the main barriers to wider adoption of electric vehicles, with nearly 80% of the public citing a lack of infrastructure as the main reason for not buying an EV.
Wanting to provide its own answer to these legitimate public concerns, Lotus today released the first information and photos of the new charging solutions that very soon it will have in its quiver in Europe as well – and among them, of course, the new DC charger stands out.
Specifically, it is about one liquid cooled DC chargerwhich offers ultra-fast charging with effect up to 450 kW. For example, with this charger, a Lotus Eletre R can add up to 142 km of range within 5 minutes, Charging from 10% to 80% of the maximum capacity of the battery can be achieved in just 20 minutes.
Along with the above solution, Lotus’ new charging ecosystem also includes one liquid-cooled power supply unit – something like a power bank. In essence, it is one articulated “power room” as it is typically called by Lotus executives, which is suitable for spaces that require high energy in order to increase performance and minimize charging time The power capabilities of this particular unit reach up to 480 kW.
The third solution presented by Lotus today is a 600 Amp liquid cooled charging unit which can charge up to four vehicles simultaneously.
The above Lotus fast charging solutions have already been installed in China and are expected to make their debut in the majority of European countries and the Middle East in the second quarter of 2024, with Germany and Austria to follow later.
These available chargers are expected to be “open” not only to users of Lotus electric cars but also to those of other EV manufacturers.
