Will there be harsh sanctions for arrogant drivers?
“Every day we have a dead driver or a seriously injured person on Slovak roads. The arrogance of Slovak drivers exceeded all limits,” describes the president of the association Zltý Anjel Assistance Marián Ürge. He therefore proposes to change the laws so that the punishments for motorists are tougher, that a number of radars are installed in Slovakia that send drivers automatic sanctions, and that drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol are viewed very strictly.
According to Ürge, we should look to other countries and take inspiration from, for example, Austria, where the system works better. On the other hand, however, it is true that in Austria, for example, fines for speeding are often lower than in our country, and the country also has a certain level of tolerance for alcohol behind the wheel – however, the blood alcohol limit must not exceed 0.5 per thousand. In Slovakia, we already have zero tolerance today.
Ürge emphasizes that a high level of respect for police officers on the roads is important, which cannot be achieved without strict legislation. An internet petition was also launched regarding punishments for traffic offences. The Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok can also imagine the modification of the rules, who responded as follows: “I am for absolutely zero tolerance of alcohol behind the wheel, so I welcome this initiative.”
