The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council remembered the headlines of the Western media in the early days of a full-scale war, when none of them believed in the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to keep the defense. At the same time, the official confirmed that the situation at the front was difficult, but the authorities were ready for this.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov commented on the “pessimistic” attitude of the Western media regarding the spring counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He spoke about this on the air of the telethon.
On Monday, March 13, The Washington Post published an article stating that the Ukrainian military may not have time to prepare for a large-scale liberation of the occupied territories from the Russian Armed Forces and anonymous Ukrainian officials voiced this opinion, according to them.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted that in fact this is not true and one cannot believe everything that the Western media write.
“We read these newspapers very carefully before February 24, when they all unanimously told us here that there would be trouble, that we would not have the ability to hold (defense – ed.). They had already recorded us in advance in a country that was losing,” Alexei Danilov says
At the same time, the official confirmed that the situation is rather complicated, because Ukraine has been waging a full-scale war with the Russian Federation for more than a year. Everyone understands that it will be difficult, but this understanding has been present since the first days of the confrontation.
“We thank our partners for their support, but now to undermine the situation on the territory of our country by providing information that does not correspond to reality is not a very pleasant thing,” Alexey Danilov emphasized.

The publication of The Washington Post about the spring counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what officials fear
The material refers to the fact that until recently the quality of the military force of the Ukrainians was superior to the RF Armed Forces, but the last year brought huge losses to both sides and the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost some of the most experienced fighters. This is precisely the fear of anonymous sources who are skeptical about a successful counter-offensive this spring.
The reason for pessimism is also the amount of weapons and equipment that the West allocates to Ukraine. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the number of tanks that will reach the battlefield is purely “symbolic”, and a number of weapons may not have time to arrive at all.
“Maybe we’ll have some localized breakthroughs. We don’t have people or weapons. And you know the ratio: when you’re on the offensive, you lose two or three times as many people. We can’t afford to lose that many people,” the official says.
Recall that on March 11, the coordinator of the Information Resistance group, Alexander Kovalenko, named three bridgeheads where the Armed Forces of Ukraine could launch a counteroffensive. According to him, each of the bridgeheads has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, which one our military will choose, they know only in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
